What makes a good CV for Environmental Consulting? This is an important question for both the hiring of staff to work in environmental consulting as well as for the business itself.
Environmental Consultant Resume
For the environmental consultant one generally looks to the progressive themed development of an individual’sindividuals career. This starts right from graduate level where a wider experience really sets up a foundation with wider general experience (such as experience as an intern where training and hands on experience is provided).
For the young professional showing involvement in volunteer work, work experience, and attending events open to students such as ALGA or ACLCA training nights is highly valued.
The ability to write concise, objective paragraphs is also highly prized and note necessarily as widespread a skill set after uni as some may think. Make sure of course your CV is very well presented, reporting skill is a highly valued asset of graduates and senior staff alike. Providing examples or showing short courses that have been completed in writing is valuable. Review a few reports online to get a feel of the content and writing style.
For more senior staff the ability to write reports well, as well as project manage, understand client needs, show accreditations (such as CEnvP CSS), and demonstrate an earnestness in how to interpret data, engage with a client and manage a project are all sought by employers. Records of training, and demonstration of projects you have run (personally) are more valued than name-dropping big projects where you may have had very limited involvement.
For the young graduate this might mean ensuring they are working in a range of industries for application of their skills prior to some specialisation. Specialisation might mean specialising in a particular industry such as Oil and Gas, specialising in a particular role such as laboratory analysis, auditing, project management, new technologies and innovation or management roles themselves.
Environmental Consultancy CV
For an environmental consultancy their project track record is a kind of CV too. This is made up from the work history of the consultants themselves as well as that of the company. A history of broader environmental consulting gives a potential client trust in the organisations ability to handle whatever may come there way by drawing on a deeper well of experience, enabling the creation of bespoke solutions that suit well the needs of their clients, and demonstrate both technical, commercial and quality savvy projects. Further experience with clients from a variety of backgrounds demonstrates the ability to communicate, develop solutions as well as to understand well the needs of clients to be able to put them forward.
